Rachel´s Random Resources Book Tour: The Mother by Valerie Keogh

I´ve just read this weekend an advice from another woman that no matter what your social status is - single, mother, wife - the source of happiness is in yourself. If misplaced, you will just end up losing yourself. Children will grow up and leave the nest, marriages may end, but if you keep having yourself, you will never be alone or lost. Those thoughts come in line with my latest read by Valerie Keogh, The Mother, an author whose gripping psychological thrillers I always enjoy.

Sarah Westfield is married, but greatly unhappy. Her husband is trying to keep her in the marriage and is offering her a poisonous gift: a baby that will most probably keep her in the marriage. Then, the baby disappears and we are left until the very end guessing what exactly happened.

The fact that there are several perspectives adding more information about the story does not make the reader´s mission easier, as there are only bits and bobs that sometimes make it even harder to seize the truth.

My attitude towards most of the characters, especially Sarah, changed during the story, although in her case it was impossible to fully like her. For me, it´s the kind of person that usually attracts such situations.

Lovers of psyhological thrillers and fans of Valerie Keogh will not be disappointed by this book and I can only look forward to read more and more by this author.

Rating: 3.5 stars
