Random Things Tours: The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarak Pekkanen

´An uneasy mind is difficult to quiet´.

Couples may hide many secrets and reading them could be a dangerous story. I both envy and pity family therapist for the load of intimacy and hidden truths he or she has to deal with. The same for Avery Chambers, the therapist turned to counselor from The Golden Couple, another outstanding book written by the successful writing team made of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Marissa and Matthew are going through a very complicated crisis in their marriage and Avery, a character herself, has the reputation of being able to fix even the most difficult such problems in just ten sessions. But from a session to another, the tension increases and what looked at the first and second sight as a perfect, ´golden´ couple is in fact just a deceiving game of two.

The pace of the book, set in Washington DC, is often changing, matching important turns of events within the story itself. The revelation of the so many secrets burned by this couple happens when one expects the least and this creates an inner pace of the story keeping the reader tensed and interested to be offered more details. The twists are complex and one of the most addictive part of reading this story.

Those twists are nothing though without the dialogues, which are, for me, the blood and bones of the book. They give content and project expectations. The clarity of the language operates as a sword which in the end brings clarity, announcing new developments.

Indeed, couples are a good inspiration for thrillers and The Golden Couple demonstrates that thriller inspiration can usually appear in the most usual and mundane, domestic places and thus, proves its authenticity and normality as a fact of our everyday life.
